Where are you located?

Our store in located on Lake Mary Blvd approximately 2 miles east of I-4 at the intersection of Longwood-Lake Mary Road.  We are in the same shopping complex as Planet Fitness, Tijuana Flats and Smart Guys Computers.

 

How much does it cost?

 

Classes are $349.99 , but call the store for any specials on certification.

 

Do I have to buy all my gear?

 

No, but you will need to buy what is consider personal gear  (mask, snorkel, fins, boots, log book, and weight system).  The rest of the gear (buoyancy control device, regulator, tanks and wetsuit) is included in the class.  After you are certified you can buy or rent gear.

 

How long does it take to become a certified scuba diver?

 

Our classes are 2 weekends long, however a private class can be done in 2 to 3 days.

 

What agencies do you teach?

 

We teach both NAUI and SSI.

  

What are the differences between the different certification agencies?

 

Most of the standards for dive training are the similar.  One of the exceptions is that both NAUI and SSI allow their instructors to teach beyond the standards, while PADI instructor can only teach up to the standard.  In our NAUI and SSI Open Water Classes you will learn some basic rescue skill.  These skills are not taught in PADIs Open Water Class.

 

Am I too old or too young to get certified?

 

You need to be at least 10 years old to be a junior scuba diver, but there is no upper age limit.

  

How long does it take to become a certified scuba diver?

 

Our classes are 2 weekends long, however a private class can be done in 2 to 3 days.

 

Do I have to be certified to dive? 

 

Yes, you need to be certified to dive in any of the state or federal spring, or dive off any charter boat in the world.  Most importantly you need to be certified so that you understand all the risk of diving and how to make your dives safe.

 

How do I get certified? 

 

Call or come in to our store and sign up for class.  At that time you will get an education packet so you can read the book and complete the questions before class.  You can also go online and do your classroom work for free on SSI Online Training Website

 

What do I have to do to get certified?

 

To get certified you must complete both classroom and water work.  The classroom work will discuss the risk factors, health and safety concerns, equipment, dive tables just to name few a of the things you will learn.  The water work will includes demonstration your comfort in the water and ability to perform skill need for diving.

 

Do I have to be in great shape or a good swimmer?

 

You will need to demonstrate that you are able to swim and are comfortable in the water.  You do not need to be a great swimmer.  There is a medical waiver that all divers must complete.  If you have health issues you may need to consult your physician and get a medical waiver signed.   


What other classes do you teach? 

 

Nitrox, Stress and Rescue, Wreck Diving, Night/Limited Visibility Diver, Boat Diving,  Navigation, Search and Recovery,  Deep Diver, Underwater Digital Photography, Marine Identification, Master Diver, Dive Control Specialist/Dive Master, Instructor. 

 

Do you teach any Technical Diving classes?

 

Yes, we offer SSI's Advance Nitrox (up to 50%) and Technical Foundations, which is an introduction course to decompression diving. More information can be found on our Technical Training  page

 

Will I get the bends?

 

There is no guarantee that you will not get the bends.  Follow safe diving practices will decrease your risks. These safe diving practices include not staying under to long, not going deep  than your training, and not ascending too quickly to name a few.

 

Won't my ears hurt when I dive? 

 

 Most people don’t have any problems with their ears once they learn to how to equalize them.

 

What about sharks and shark attacks on divers?

 

Shacks attacks on scuba divers are extremely rare.  Sharks are rarely seen while diving in Florida.  The most common of the sharks seen in Florida are Nurse or Reef Sharks, these sharks are not hostile and will not bother you as long as you don’t bother them.  Most divers who see sharks will stop and watch them.

 

Where are the best dive sites? 

 

If you where to ask several divers where the best dive sites you would probably get a different answer from each of them.  We have a wide variety of diving sites here in Florida, springs, reefs, wrecks and of course the Florida Keys has some excellent diving.  There are also many great dive sites close by in the Caribbean. Among some of the most popular dive sites in the world are Australia, Cozumel, Hawaii, Belize, Palau, Bonaire, the Red Sea,  and Truk Lagoon just to name a few.
